Greenwood scored twice in Getafe's 3-1 La Liga win over Almeria. But the forward had been the subject of abusive chanting from Real Sociedad fans a week earlier focusing on the charges that were brought against him following his arrest in 2022. That has led Bordalas to jump to his player's defence.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

It wasn't the first time that fans have targeted Greenwood this season, with Osasuna supporters making their feelings clear and chanting death threats during home and away clashes. Jude Bellingham was also alleged to have made a remark towards the forward, prompting an investigation from the RFEF.

  • WHAT BORDALAS SAID

"He is calm, he is happy, he is treated very well," Bordalas told . "The boy has had exemplary behaviour. His team-mates help him. I am sure [chanting] affects him. You know my opinion, I am against any insult, whoever the player is, whether it's a hundred or one, I can't say anything else."

    WHAT NEXT FOR GREENWOOD?

Greenwood's future beyond this season remains unknown. He still has a contract at Manchester United until the summer of 2025, with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently asserting that a decision will be made one way or the other – being reintegrated at Old Trafford hasn't been ruled out but seems unlikely. He has previously been linked with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, while Juventus have now been tipped to pursue a cut-price deal.
